The Estee Lauder Companies General Management Program brings together general managers from affiliates in international markets and other senior leaders who work with them to provide an understanding of the role of the general manager, foster collaboration, and improve cross-functional effectiveness. The intent is to remove the participants from their quotidian responsibilities and enable them to return to work with new leadership perspectives, implementation strategies, and tools.

"Estee Lauder's mission is to bring the best to everyone we touch," said William Lauder, president and CEO of The Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. "By that we mean the best products, the best people, and the best ideas. The executive education program at Wharton is an important way of developing management capabilities across all our brands, thus fostering an environment that allows for creative ideas and innovative products." William Lauder and Leonard Lauder, chairman, attended portions of the program.

The program was customized to address the specific and unique elements inherent to managing Estee Lauder's global businesses. "Since its inception in 1953, the Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. has realized growth each year," said Cedric Prouve, the international group president and sponsor of the program. "To continue this momentum, we must create a culture of efficiency, collaboration, and creativity."

Wharton and Estee Lauder provided a format that encouraged introspection and inspired insight, development, learning, and understanding -- both for personal and professional growth. "We encouraged the participants to share their views and to consider those of their peers, as the success of this program depends upon the exchange of ideas," Prouve said.

Wharton's goal is to deliver Impact Through Education(TM). Academic Director Jon Spector, Wharton's vice dean for executive education, and his team worked closely with the senior management of Estee Lauder to determine the company's needs and design a completely customized program. "By partnering at the highest levels of the company, Wharton was able to respond to the needs of Estee Lauder in a unique way. The program was designed to give the participants time to reflect and arm them with strategies and tools that will enable them to return to work and deliver positive, observable impact across each of Estee Lauder's companies."

The Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. has well-established relationships with Wharton and the University of Pennsylvania. Both Leonard Lauder and William Lauder are graduates of Wharton; Leonard Lauder is a trustee emeritus of the University of Pennsylvania, and William Lauder is a current trustee. Ronald Lauder, chairman of Clinique Laboratories, LLC, also graduated from Wharton. In addition, the Joseph H. Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies at Wharton combines the world-renowned Wharton MBA, a Master's degree in international studies, and customized language training that prepares leaders for the ever-evolving global economy.
