Classes Begin in the University of New England's New Online Master's in Education Program

Biddeford, ME (PRWEB) November 12, 2007 -- The University of New England goes global with the announcement of the first classes in the university's online Master of Science in Education program. This fall marks the first time that students in the program can earn their degree completely online with no trips to campus.

"This is a very exciting time for the Education Department," said Department Chair Dr. Douglas Lynch. "We are beginning to build a new online community of educators who work and live across the country but who come together for a common purpose through the University of New England. In the process the university can influence minds and help these professional educators sharpen their skills so that they can be more effective in the classroom."

The program is designed so that teaching professionals can have a high quality graduate education experience in the convenience of their home or school. The program offers experienced teachers the opportunity to study, reflect, and practice skills based on the most recent educational research and instructional techniques that will enhance confidence and skill in the classroom.

The University of New England realizes the importance technology plays in the delivery of educational opportunities. Online course delivery takes away geographical boundaries allowing the faculty to deliver high quality instruction to professional educators worldwide.

The Master's of Science in Education (MSEd) programs are 30 credits, fifteen of which are a core curriculum taken by all MSEd candidates and fifteen that are in an area of concentration. Prospective students in the MSEd program will choose from four concentrations: Educational Leadership, Inclusion Education, Literacy (K-12) and Curriculum & Instruction Strategies. The university also offers a 30-hour certificate in Advanced Educational Leadership to professional educators who are pursuing upper-level school administrator positions.

The curriculum for each concentration includes:

? Educational Leadership is designed for K-12 educators who are considering school administration. These courses are matched to the national standards set by the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) and provide entry-level knowledge and skills for beginning school administrators.

? Inclusion Education is designed for those regular educators, both teachers and administrators, who wish to have more background in special education with respect to inclusion practices and concerns. This unique concentration explores methods and strategies for teaching all students in inclusion settings with a special course on the range and use of assistive technologies.

? Literacy (K-12) is designed for those K-12 educators who wish to delve deeper into the importance of reading and writing for all students to be successful. Current research and theory are translated into practice with each and every class.

? Curriculum & Instruction Strategies is for those K-12 educators who wish to focus on strengthening their classroom in those challenging areas of literacy and inclusion with a course on educational leadership to build skills that focus on implementing solutions beyond the classroom.
