Security+ Enhancements Endorsed by the Academy of Computer Education (ACE)

Greenbelt, MD (PRWEB) August 5, 2008 -- CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association who is the top supplier of vendor-neutral certifications such as Security+ for the world's technology workforce announced it will release a new certification exam in October 2008. ACE offers training for the new exam at its Greenbelt facility, as well as off site with programs tailored to the needs of a company. You can get more information at http://www.trainace.com/courses/securityplus/ .

The new exam places a heavier emphasis on new security threats to infrastructure and data transmission. In order to address the risk management issues facing IT professionals today a more comprehensive understanding of the practical workings of system architecture are required.

The test also places the spotlight on the concerns of the industry as expressed in surveys and interviews with industry leaders worldwide. Companies want individuals equipped with Security+ certifications early in their career. The new exam will be available on October 14, 2008 however individuals studying for the 2007 certification should complete their studies and take the exam.

Changes from the last exam include six domains in the new exam with an updated focus:

1.    "Access control" which was a topic on the last exam, has now been expanded into a domain.

2.    "Assessments and audits" is now a separate domain which will address risk assessment and mitigation. It will also cover the tools and techniques used in assessing risk.

3.    Systems Security

4.    Network Infrastructure

5.    Cryptography

6.    Organizational Security

With more importance placed on "how to" accomplish the task instead of simply understanding or recognizing security concepts, the resulting certification will indicate a higher level of preparedness for real life scenarios. Individuals taking the exam will find new objectives such as "carry out the appropriate procedure" and "deploy various authentication models."

CompTIA highly recommends that candidates for this exam be information security professionals with at least two years experience such as network administrators with a security focus, security administrators or specialists in information security.

The exam development process was approved by the International Association for standardization. CompTIA is an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accredited Certifier. CompTIA certifications are valid for the lifetime of the professional. Recertification is only necessary if the employer requires it.
